This snuffer is created using the technique known as mixed clay – making each swirling landscape unique, each piece a true one-off. The hypnotic figures created by candle smoke – the original inspiration – are frozen motionless to present colours that shade from grey to a dense black. Can be combined with the stand in the same collection.

Story

Since 1963, Diptyque has created candles emitting light and fragrance. Terre-mêlée, a two-tone ceramic with random patterns evoking wisps of smoke, echoes this art of fragrance and the Latin origin of the word "perfume," per fumum, meaning "through smoke."

Know-how

The rare and demanding terre mêlée technique involves blending two shades of porcelain, poured by hand simultaneously. As they meet, random marbling patterns appear according to the artisan’s movements. The unique pieces are fired at high temperatures without glaze, preserving a matte finish, a velvety touch, and a pure aesthetic. Each piece is one-of-a-kind, revealing a singular, mysterious design, with nuances ranging from the palest to the deepest shades.
