Once upon a time... there was “A Night of Wax and Gold”, a holiday tale by Diptyque.

This year, Diptyque celebrates the season with an invitation to lose yourself in an enchanted story set in the heart of Saint-Germain-des-Prés — spirited, wondrous, all aglow with imagination.

The trio of artists behind this creation echo Diptyque's three founders: Contemporary poet Victor Pouchet created the winter tale, illustrated with surrealism and humor by Parisian illustrator and bookseller Vincent Puente. Inès Mélia, a boldly imaginative artist, works with shapes and materials to infuse a narrative dimension into poetic objets d'art that transform the narrative into tangible form.

Set in a bookshop in Saint-Germain-des-Prés a few days before Christmas, the tale follows the shopkeeper and his mischievous, highly literate cat, Archibald. The pair discover a peculiar power of attraction in a small pine cone dipped in the shimmering wax of a scented candle. As the pages turn, the alchemy of the holidays unfolds...

This year, the icons of winter escape from a fairy tale, adorned with surreal designs and golden motifs. Their boxes and wrapping papers become the precious pages of the tale, infused with poetry and light. This fairy tale is a celebration of enchantment, where every detail heightens the magic of the holidays.

The Very Large Candle's vessel is crafted by the French manufacturer Virebent, which has been given the Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant (“Living Heritage Company”) label by the French government, a distinction honoring the preservation of traditional techniques and the pursuit of excellence in craftsmanship. At the center of the candle, Diptyque's emblematic oval emerges in relief on the terracotta, a material chosen for its rustic, artisanal character.

Because of the artisanal nature of this product, no two finishes are the same.

Caring for your candle.

An exceptional artisanal creation, your Diptyque candle requires the greatest care. Discover how you can get the most out of every note, for as long as possible, in just a few steps.

- Prepare Your Indoor Space: to protect surfaces, especially delicate ones like wood or marble, use the provided felt pad or a candle holder.

- Prepare Your Outdoor Space: for optimal burning and to preserve fragrance quality, shelter the candle from wind and direct sunlight.

- Light the candle: your journey starts here. We recommend lighting your candle with a match to avoid any risk of burning yourself.

- Coax out the scent: leave your candle to burn until the entire surface has turned to liquid (around 4 hours). Do not leave your candle unattended.

- Snuff out the flame: use a snuffer to avoid splattering hot wax. Always straighten the wicks with a wick trimmer and trim them to 5mm to ensure optimal burning quality.

- Final Notes: when only 5mm of wax remains or the metal discs become visible, the candle should not be relit.

- Ventilate your space: when used indoors, it is important to ventilate the room once the candle is extinguished.
